Day 48: Honolulu – USS Arizona Memorial, Chinatown, Aloha Tower, Ala Moana Center

02/07/2015

My first time in Hawaii!! The 50th state of the United States of America!

The whole island is so peaceful, and everyone is in holiday mood. I have never felt that relaxed.

Spam Musubi – Hawaiian Specialty, especially good when you choose Teriyaki flavor spam.

Recommendation: Musubi Cafe Iyasume

USS Arizona Memorial

My first stop in Hawaii. It is around 30 minutes away from Waikiki Beach by bus.

Entrance to museum is free, but the ferry tickets to where USS Arizona are limited, so if you want to visit the memorial, you might want to get there early to get the tickets. Ferry tickets are free and on a first come first serve basis.

USS Arizona Memorial Site

Why USS Arizona is located in the middle of the sea, but not being retrieved back to island?

The reason is that the battleship was damaged too much that it was not even possible to retrieve it back as a whole. As a matter of fact, the ship as of now is still leaking oil in a very slow rate. As you are standing on the memorial site, you can still smell some oil leak from the ship.

Free tour guide was provided to give everybody a lecture of the history of Pearl Harbor incidence.

I highly recommend everyone, especially Americans, to visit this place for the history of our nation.

Costco in Hawaii! The entrance and exit got flipped!

Chinatown, Honolulu

It took my so long to find this place because (WARNING) the place on Google Maps was wrong, and even when I filed a report to Google, Google won’t change its false information. Make sure it’s the right place before you navigate to Chinatown.

IMG_3420

This Chinatown closes relatively early. Around 6 pm, everything is already closed.

Ward Center

Interesting Japanese Bookstore in Hawaii selling a lot of Japanese books

IMG_3450

Personally, I feel like Hawaii is like a Japanese colony ;p because there are so many Japanese signs here, and English signs are just like the translations of these Japanese signs.

My personal favorite: Huladog – Hawiian Style Hot dog

IMG_3453

This is not a simple hot dog. You will see when you try to order. There are five separate steps to order.

  1. Bread
  2. Sausage
  3. Sauce
  4. Relishes
  5. Mustard

IMG_3452

The bun and the sausage are freshly heated and cooked at the moment you order.  There is always a long line in the Waikiki location, but this location in Ward Center has fewer people, and this huladog tastes really delicious!
